We have reintroduced monthly social meetings from February 2017 and we now meet on the first Wednesday of each month at the Swan in Falmer at 8pm. Please come along and meet us.

50th Anniversary:
In 2018 we will celebrate the club's 50th anniversary and it would be great if we could return one more time to the Royal Victoria Hotel in Llanberis for a dinner. This will of course depend on how many want to attend.
We would be looking at the weekend of either 17th & 18th or 24th & 25th February 2018.
Catch 22, I can’t determine hotel availability without numbers and I suppose no one will commit without knowing the date. Please help me to do our best. I need numbers by August 2017 or sooner. Do not wait.
I am sending this to everyone for whom I have a current address. Please can you forward it to everyone you still know who has been in SMF at any time. An electronic copy is available if you ask me for it.
Anyone interested then please let me know your contact details by email at
Many thanks.
Clive Jackson.

Sussex Mountaineering Federation is a mountaineering club that organises trips regularly to the Lakes, North Wales and Peak District as well as coastal areas such as Dorset, Pembroke and Cornwall. The club promotes both climbing and walking. The core members of the club hold a wealth of experience between them. We welcome all ages and abilities, walkers, scramblers and climbers.

Historically, the club was a Federation of several clubs based in Sussex (hence the name), but is now mostly a single entity club, whilst retaining an association with Hastings Rock and Fell Club.

The club is based in Sussex, but has members throughout England and beyond.

Up until recent years the format of the meets revolved around traveling to the destination by coach, but now private cars are the order of the day, whilst the enthusiasm of the members is as strong as ever.

Occasional trips abroad are undertaken. In recent years the Dolomites and Peru have been successful and enjoyable trips.

Always friendly and welcoming, the current members continue the traditions of the Federation, based on over 45 years of mountaineering comaraderie. Be it in the local area for 'home' walking, cycling or pub meets or elsewhere in the UK or abroad, a SMF trip is a great trip.
